Craft Club at LAMP

LAMP now has a craft club! Every Wednesday students can meet and develop their creative skills. They can learn to knit, crochet, embroider or bring along whatever creative project they’re working on.

It’s our hope that Craft Club can provide a relaxing environment where students can be creative, get to know their peers and learn a new skill.

For many autistic people crafts like knitting and crochet can provide a sensory experience that is both calming and enjoyable. The repetitive motion of knitting and crochet, as well as the feel of the yarn, can help individuals develop their sensory skills in safe surroundings. Knitting and crochet also require precise hand movements, which can help individuals develop their fine motor skills. Regularly practicing these skills can lead to improved hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and control. But regardless of these benefits, who doesn’t want to create cool, handmade clothes?

Craft Club will be facilitated by Jamie, one of our TAs at LAMP and will take place every Wednesday from 15.15 to 16.30. Get in touch with any member of staff if you’re a student who would like to attend.
