Gong Hei Fat Choy!

We’re learning about Chinese new year in PSHE and the Chinese Zodiac. The LAMP community is represented by all 12 animals of the zodiac, that's including staff and student's cats! Check out the table below to see what animal you are.

This year is the year of the Rat. Chinese new year is based on the lunar calendar and runs in a 12 year cycle. Tradition says that if it’s your year you need to wear red every day to ward off any bad luck. So if you’re a Rat get those red socks, belts and hats out! The Chinese new year celebrations last 15 days. The first 5 days of the celebration need to be spent exclusively with your family and people travel thousands of miles to be with their families in China. It’s been called the biggest human migration on the planet!

Food is very important during the Chinese new year celebrations and we will be cooking and tasting some Chinese traditional foods in the next couple of weeks. If you want to increase your luck for the coming year eat noodles for a long and happy life, fish to increase prosperity, dumplings for wealth and tangerines and oranges for ‘fullness’ and wealth!
